AFRC announces appointment of new Honorary Advisers

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Council (AFRC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sir David Tweedie, Ms Hayly Leung, and Mr Peter Kan to its panel of Honorary Advisers, for a term of two years, from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2027.
Joining the AFRC as Distinguished Honorary Adviser is Sir David Tweedie, a globally recognised leader in accounting and financial reporting. Sir David is renowned for his contributions as the first Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), where he played a key role in developing and advancing the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), which have become the benchmark for financial reporting in more than 140 countries. His leadership was marked by a strong commitment to transparency, comparability, and high-quality financial information in the public interest.
Ms Hayly Leung is a seasoned human resources executive with over 30 years of experience across Asia, the UK, and Europe. Prior to her retirement in January 2025, she held dual leadership roles as General Manager, Group People & Culture Services for Jardine Matheson, and People & Culture Director of Jardine Pacific. Throughout her career, Ms Leung spearheaded initiatives in HR and talent strategy, leadership development, cultural transformation, and executive compensation and reward.
Mr Peter Kan’s career in audit and financial services spans across the UK, Hong Kong and Mainland China, where he served as an audit partner in the Beijing office of KPMG China. With extensive experience in delivering audit services to both PRC and international companies, Mr Kan brings a wealth of expertise in cross-border financial practices. He retired in June 2014 after a career spanning more than 25 years.
Dr David Sun, Chairman of the AFRC, remarked, “We are honoured to welcome Sir David Tweedie and our new Honorary Advisers. Their extensive experience and expertise will be invaluable as we address the evolving demands of our role, ensuring that the AFRC remains at the forefront of regulatory excellence and fosters ongoing innovation in talent management and technological adoption.”
