AFRC announces appointment of new Honorary Advisers

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Council ( AFRC ) announces the appointment of Mr Walter Cheung, Mr Eric Tang, and Mr Keith Yuen as Honorary Advisers for a term of two years, from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2027, and Ms Jacqueline Chan for a term of two years, from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2027.

 

Mr Walter Cheung is the Founder and Managing Director of Walter Cheung Communications Limited. He has received over 100 industry awards, both locally and internationally, including two PR Professional of the Year awards and the Best General Reporter Award from the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong. He was Senior Adviser to the CEO and Founding Head of Communications & Sustainability at Hang Seng Bank. Mr Cheung actively contributes to various professional and community organisations. He serves as a member of the Sustainability Committee of Hong Kong Management Association, the PR Committee of the Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists, and the China International Public Relations Association.

 

Mr Eric Tang has served as an Adviser to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (Deloitte) since his retirement in 2022 and is an independent non-executive director of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited. With over 35 years of audit and assurance experience, he was a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel (FRRP) between July 2018 and July 2024. During his tenure as a partner of Deloitte from 1999 to 2022, Mr Tang held various leadership roles, including National Professional Practice Director and China Governing Board member in Deloitte China.

 

Mr Keith Yuen is the Financial Services Organisation Technology Consulting Leader of EY Greater China and has over 30 years of consulting experience. His expertise includes regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, cross-border data management, IT Audit, and IT management. Mr Yuen is actively engaged in industry research, contributing to studies on Hong Kong's development as an international cross-border data center. He provides IT risk and security advice and contributes security-related articles to major media outlets. He is currently a Senior Adviser at Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and a member of CPA Australia.

 

Ms Jacqueline Chan is currently the Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer and Alternate Chief Executive of DBS Bank Hong Kong. She has extensive experience in the financial services sector. Prior to joining DBS, she held various senior positions in global banks including Deutsche Bank, Barclays Group and Salomon Brothers. Ms Chan presently serves as the Vice Chair of the Hong Kong Strategy Advisory Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and was the Vice President of Association of Women Accountants Hong Kong. She is a fellow member of the ICAEW, HKICPA and ACCA, and holds an MBA degree.

 

Ms Janey Lai, CEO of the AFRC said, “We are delighted to welcome four new members to the AFRC panel of Honorary Advisers, which now comprises 16 members. The extensive experience and diverse perspectives of our new members will be invaluable in advancing our regulatory mission.”
