AFRC Congratulates Chairman on New Role

The Government has announced today that the Chief Executive has appointed Dr Kelvin Wong, the current Chairman of the AFRC, to a new position as Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission.

 

Dr Wong will continue in his current role as AFRC Chairman until 31 December 2024, while also assuming his new role on 20 October 2024, to ensure continuity in the implementation of key strategic initiatives at the AFRC.

 

AFRC CEO Ms Janey Lai congratulated Dr Wong and expressed her appreciation, stating, “On behalf of all of us at the AFRC, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr Wong for his invaluable counsel, exceptional leadership, and dedication. Under his guidance, the AFRC has made significant progress in enhancing our regulatory framework and reinforcing our role as an independent regulator."

 

Reflecting on his time with the AFRC, Dr Wong said, “It has been a privilege to work alongside the Board, our CEO and the management team. Together, we have faced challenges, achieved significant milestones, enacted vital reforms, and executed on our strategic imperatives. I look forward to witnessing the ongoing impact of the AFRC in advancing the accounting profession. "

 

Ms Lai added, “The AFRC remains fully dedicated to fulfilling its regulatory responsibilities by fostering an environment that supports good governance, economic development and professional growth. This commitment helps maintain trust among stakeholders and reinforces Hong Kong's status as a leading international centre.”
