AFRC welcomes appointment of Chairman

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Council ( AFRC ) welcomes the appointment by the Chief Executive of Dr David Sun Tak-kei as the Chairman of the AFRC for a term of two years from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026.

 

Dr Sun will succeed Dr Kelvin Wong, who will step down on 31 December 2024, having chaired the AFRC for six years (Note 1).

 

Welcoming Dr Sun’s appointment, Dr Wong said, “Dr Sun’s extensive experience and leadership in the accounting and auditing fields will be a tremendous asset to the AFRC. His notable public service, including his role as Director of Audit for the Hong Kong Government from 2012 to 2018, will help elevate the AFRC to new heights."

 

Ms Janey Lai, Chief Executive Officer of the AFRC, said, “I look forward to working closely with Dr Sun to advance our mission of upholding the integrity and quality of audit and financial reporting through a holistic regulatory approach.”

 

Dr Sun said, “I am honoured to have been appointed as the Chairman of the AFRC. I am committed to building on the momentum established by Dr Wong and collaborating with the AFRC Board and management team to enhance our regulatory efforts and promote the sustainable development of the accounting profession.”

 

1 Dr Wong was appointed as the Chairman of the AFRC on 15 December 2018. His current term ends on 31 December 2024.
