AFRC welcomes the appointments to the Advisory Committee of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council and expresses heartfelt gratitude to retiring member

The AFRC welcomes the re-appointments of 11 members and appointment of one new member to the Advisory Committee (ADC) of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council by the HKSAR Government, for a term of two years from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2026.

 

Members from the ADC include practitioners, service users and other stakeholders of the accounting profession to ensure the diversity of expertise may render constructive advice that is relevant to the AFRC’s prevailing regulatory work focus. The ADC will provide advice on matters of policy in relation to any of AFRC’s objectives and functions.

 

The Financial Secretary appointed Mr Edmund Wong Chun-sek as a new member and re-appointed the below members in accordance with the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council Ordinance (Cap. 588).

Ms Janey Lai, CEO of the AFRC said, “I look forward to working closely with all members of the ADC as they play an important role to further enhance the effectiveness of our communications with our key stakeholders. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to outgoing member, Mr Low Chee-keong, for his valuable contributions during his tenure and warmly welcome our new member, Mr Edmund Wong.”

 

Dr Kelvin Wong, Chairman of the AFRC, remarked, “The role and impact of the AFRC is essential in contributing to the economic growth and competitiveness of Hong Kong as an international financial centre where quality financial reporting is pivotal. As such, the accounting reform in 2022 included a new function for the AFRC to promote and support the development of the profession. Effective regulators should be connected with the challenges of the real world and focus on the public interest that they serve.”
